My Letter to Lowe’s, Re: All-American Muslim/FFA Controversy
Sharing my Letter to Lowes – I urge you to do the same: email@example.com
I was made aware of the recent actions of your firm regarding the show “All American Muslim,” on TLC. As a businessperson who advertises heavily, I actually rushed to Lowe’s defense – as I was under the impression that your firm was pulling ads due to poor show performance. As I read the statements made by your representatives, I am now appalled at your firm’s behavior and can no longer do business with you in good conscience.
As an American Muslim myself, I find it hard to believe that a firm would buckle to pressures from the blogosphere along with other “customer complaints” as noted by your reps. Like it or dislike it, the show depicts Muslims for what they really are – regular people, trying to live their lives in America. We are protected by the 1st Amendment of the Constitution just as everyone else in this great nation; as a multi-billion dollar corporation, you all have obviously lost your way.
This is a very trying time for Muslims in this country – with the rise in Islamophobia, hate crimes, and campaigns of hate – led by groups such as the Florida Family Association. In the big scheme of things, it will show Lowe’s is on the wrong side of history on this subject matter. While I certainly appreciate your firm’s freedom to allocate advertising dollars where fit – I object to the recklessness of your decision making on this matter.
As your slogan goes: “Never Stop Improving” – sadly, the actions of your firm have degraded the course of the political discourse in this country.
